Filtration Fanatics
I know many of you have supplementary filtration for fuel, engine oil, transmission fluid, & even radiator coolant.
In the interest of longevity, has anyone on this forum added a remote spin-on filter for their power steering fluid?

Never thought of using a filter like that for the PS fluid, neat idea!
Only problem I see though is mounting the filter down below the PS pump. Our PS pump is already at the bottom of the motor, so to mount it lower would almost require it to be beneath the frame rail.
There are smaller, simpler PS fluid filters out there as well.

If you plow snow, you don't want a ps filter, as it slows down the fluid circulation just enough, that while you're finishing up that commercial lot, the ps fluid overheats and bubles out of the filler cap, and all over the engine bay.
It will stop once the filter is removed,
Only happened while plowing lots

The 2nd gen V-10 trucks came with a really small oil cooler on them that was mounted below the front core support.
I have thought of re-using that cooler on my white crew cab as the fluid can get hot steering those 37's around.
I might use one of those coolers when I do the RR steering box mod on it.

i wonder if this would be beneficial or detrimental with hydroboost. too much fluid restriction? or does the hydroboost cause the fluid to get even hotter and this would help?

Good question.
I am thinking the coolers I saw on those V-10s where the earlier style NON hydro boost set ups they used in the 2nd gens.

Good question...I think that small inline filter I posted up might not work so well in the Hydroboost set-up. But that remote oil filter set-up would be fine I bet, since it's made to handle actual engine oil filtering....high pressure, and high volume.

Just finishing up a hydro boost install. I'm running two of the magnefine inline filters, one from the hydro boost return and one from the steering gear return. I also put a 12" aluminum heat sink cooer in line after the steering gear its mounted vertically to the right of the intercooler. I have had to replace the steering gear 2 times to many so I hope this helps.
