evaporator replacement- how?

Can someone please tell me generally how this goes on one of these trucks?

What procedures were not clear to me by the manual. Heater box out side, glove box, and ....? Does the dash have to come out?

Thanks,

Michael

Pretty much the same procedure as the heater core. The dash doesn't need to come out, but the brace that runs along the bottom of the dash on the passenger side does need to come out. This means pulling the ashtray and the cluster bezel to get at some of the screws. Also pull out the RWAL controller. Then you can pull on the lower passenger side corner of the dash to get enough room for the heater box to drop on the cab floor.

Are you pretty darn sure the evap. is leaking? I assume you've put dye in the system and can't find any leaks elsewhere?

I hope you're going to replace the heater core while you're in there. It would really suck to have that spring a leak in 6 months.

And the aftermarket ones are WAY bigger and offer more heat.

Flip down the glove compartment door and look straight in towards the firewall. It's the electrical thing with the big plug on it.

I don't know what the book time is, but you should be able to knock it out in 8 hours, 6 if you are a fast worker or have good help.
