Access to the evaporator core w/out removing the dash?
I've got a leak in my a/c system. I put dye in the system and want to find the leak. I can't seem to fine the leak anywhere, so that would only leave the evaporator core. Even though I know that's probably what it is...is there a way to get enough access to it so I can see the dye without removing the whole dash. I've got the UV dye in it, so I probably wouldn't need a whole bunch of room to see, it should glow pretty well.
Thanks!
Thanks!
If you cant find the leak it IS the evaporator. You might be able to see the dye if you removed the blower motor. I almost guarantee its the evaporator. The good news is the dash doesnt have to come out th change the evaporator it just needs to swing out a little. Push the seats all the way back. Loosen the steering column and let it rest on the seat. Remove the side panels under the dash. Remove the screws on the top of the dash (by the windshield) then loosen the pivot bolts on the side (under the side panels). Disconnect any harnesses you see that will be in the way. I know theres one in the back of the dash but i cant remember all of the locations. Pivot the passenger side of the dash out and use a bungee cord to hold it up over the passenger seat. As you pivot it you will see what you need to disconnect. After this just unbolt the heater box and take it out. As you start removing stuff you will see what you need to remove and what you dont. This it just a quick recap from memory so im sure there will be a few other things that will be needed to be removed.
It really isnt as hard as people make it sound. Its just time consuming. It took me and a friend total of 9 hours to complete it including vacuuming the system and recharging. We also changed the antifreeze, heatercore, and drier while we were there.

I've been in denial about it being the evaporator, but I'm pretty sure that's what it is.
Going by your instructions, it actually doesn't sound that bad.
Thanks again!
