A/C evaporator core change
I just want to tell all of you who have not done it yet, DO IT! I put it off until hot days burned me up. The hardest part is to get started! I got the core from Rockauto for under 100. The detailed instructions on this site saved me 100's & 100's of dolllars! I just want to thank the guys who contributed to the instructions. It took me about 6hrs to complete, but that is including a trip to the parts store. It is icy cold now, Christmas in July! Thank you, Mark

I thought about replacing my 2 cores myself, but screw all the mess. I had it quoted to me for 900 bucks including replacing my cracked dash. The dash is an additional 300 bucks from Dodge. I just think I can spend my day trying to make 900 instead of fooling with something I know nothing about. The guy I spoke to definetly suggested replacing both heater & ac core at the same time. The 900 included both. Is that a fair price? These people are A/C specialists too. That is all they do. He in fact told me they do at least 1 Dodge everyday. I guess that speaks volumes about the quality cores Dodge uses.

Did the core fit OK, or is it a retro-fit type deal, if it drops in with no mods, that's a pretty good deal.

Yeah the core fit right in the box. I hated thinking about doing the job, but now after tackling it, I would do it again or for a friend. The estimates I was getting were 700-1000. I can give up a sat. afternoon to learn how to do a crazy job.

I live in CT too, the dealer wanted $1400 plus anything extra? $900 is a steel! I needed a condenser due to the old one being pluged for some reason, that cost $1000 at the dealer, I think the evaporator and core and drier at napa is around $450? once again $900, a steel!
