Electric fuel pump questions.

Electric fuel pump questions.

I am doing a 93 ic conversion in an off road truck and I am going to run a blue pump and my questions are.

1. What pressure do I need to reg. it at?

2. Do I need the manual on the side of the block still?

Why not just use the mechanical pump that's there?

A Holley Blue will work OK, you can crank it all the way up. With as unreliable as the Holley pumps are, I'd keep the mechanical pump.

Wanna I will be useing a fuel cell. I just put holley pump up yhere for reference I have a few differnt ones that I could use. So I am assuming you cant over psi it?

On a VE 15 PSI is about all you want or you run the risk of blowing a seal out of the IP

The blue pumps get a bad rap for some reason, mine has been on for a year and its still kickin,I know there are better pumps out there, the Blue is fairly reliable IMO, Its never left me on the side of the road

My blue runs about 14 psi unregulated

Do you have a pressure gauge? Can you pull your blue pump below 14psi?

Oh, you can, just not with a Holley Blue. 15-18 psi is about all you want.

Not understanding why you need an electric pump to go with your fuel cell?

The best of both worlds is to install a piston-lift-pump, in place of the wimpy stock diaphragm-pump, then install the electric-pump of your choice in a by-pass line, such that by merely flipping a switch, the electric comes into play.


The piston-pump will supply all the fuel any sensible situation ever requires, while the electric is on standby as an emergency back-up and for priming filters, etc.

If you want a serious electric pump dont bother with a holley. If you do a search you will find many people that didnt have great luck. Use a Raptor 100 pump. They come with a lifetime warranty which basically makes them amazing. They also offer advance replacement so they will send you the replacement before you ship yours back. This way you only gotta get under the truck once if you ever do have a problem. Very well priced to, check the site: http://www.pureflowtechnologies.com/

You will not need a pressure regulator either as its built in. Just set it where you want and go.

If the engine is going to stay close to stock there is no reason to complicate the fuel system. Just run a fuel line to the mechanical pump and let it pull from the tank.

The only reason why I currently use electric pump is bc the mech pump can leak fuel inside the engine which is something not uncommon on IH 7.3l engines so My plan is to remove the stock pump on My 89 5.9l and replace it with an electric facet pump (max 10psi), the one used by carrier.
