Early factory tach, myth??
I've heard on here about some first gens, non intercooled ones. Having a factory tach. Is this true? If it is does anyone have pictures of it?

Not sure if it was here or over on CF board that a member had a dealer tach kit on his Non-IC truck and the CPS was shot, he was asking if anyone knew where to find one.....think he eventually found out that a late 90's Jeep had a CPS that was almost identical.
That was probably the first time I have ever seen one of the dealer kits.....pretty rare! I bought a tach kit from Geno's for my 89 motor and it worked well....and the Isspro tach I got in the kit is now working just fine with the 93 wiring system tach connection.

When I bought my 93 new off the lot, I purchased a dealer option factory tach. Came with a template to drill 3 holes in dash & run the wires through the center hole & simply plug into the factory harness.
This is a picture of the tach that was in my truck....sold the truck after 17 years

I have never seen a factory option tach on a Dodge truck other than on '92 and '93s on all the 1st gens I have owned
I have seen aftermarket Autometer ones on the earlier Non I/Ced motors with the magnetic pick up that runs off the alternator like death row dave mentioned.
freighttrain might know better details as he is into finding and fixing up those OEM tachs and using them on his and his fathers collection of 1st gens.

Oliver knows me well. I have a total of 8 tachs right now. Five are in my trucks and 3 are stashed away for safe keeping. One of the 3 is indeed a very rare 1989-91 Non I/C setup. Most think that both setups are the same and that is 50% correct. They share the same tach and mount but that's it. The 1989-91 has a square plug and that kit came with its own harness, crank sensor, sensor mount, tach mount plate, two nuts, and the drilling templete (as a kit). The 1992-93 tach used a slim plug that plugged into a female connector that in every truck I have installed the tach into was taped to the steering column just above the clutch pedal. It was a kit too but only came with the tach, plate, nuts, and drilling template. Most will say im nuts for having so many but I have been around these trucks since 1992. I bought my first tach brand new from my dealer in 1996 for $160, that's what they cost new. People who know me know I love rare Mopar accessories for our 1st gens. The tachs really aren't that rare compared to say a behind the seat gun cabinet or the blue anodized grille guard. Hech I think the leaping ram floor mats are a cool Mopar accessory and hard to find nowadays. Most don't realize how many rare accessories there are. The only reason I do is I have a dealership 1992 truck Mopar accessory catalog. Sorry for hijacking the thread. I wanted to reply to Oli
