Drive Line Fiasco

The driveshaft shop told me they no longer make the long spline shaft, just a shorter one so they will have to make a new front shaft. They quoted me like $600 for the new front tube, u-joints, carrier, and two shaft balancing.

I can get a single aluminum shaft for that!

Truck is gonna sit for a while...

I have a busted Gear Vendors and a new driveshaft I had made some time ago for it, maybe I put it back together and run it as a dummy with the single shaft for a while, I don't know.

Are they using spicer parts? I would check the spicer website and see if there is a long spline unit available. And why can't they use your current unit?

The spline are wallered out. They had grease in them too so not sure what the deal is, maybe crappy parts the last time in had it done.

Dont you have a detroit locker in your truck?

Get ride of that thing problem solved.

My choice for rearend

ARB
Pros one wheel daily driver no extra ware and tear on the rest of the drive train, wheels locked when you need then.
Con none only big bucks

LSD
Pros good unit driveable on pavement
Con
Keep a good eye on the u-joints, splines, carrier bearing if you have one,,,Must (should) replace clutches every 100,000 miles +or - depends on the weight you haul
Ok you can go a lot more miles just like a oil change Its a case of https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OHug0AIhVoQ
When the clutches get thin the spider gears get chewed up then the barrings go.

Open Diff
Pro Its like the the everyready rabbit they just keep going & going. They are very easy on the u-joints. Carrier trans ETC. Just change the oil.
Con
One wheel wonder when your stuck get out and push.

Lockers as in detroits, powertrax, lincoln, ETC
Pro cheap good for offraod use
Cons way to many for a paved street daily driver. They eat the trucks drive train from the fan to the springs

Id much rather have a open diff than a locked rearend.

No dang way I am ever getting rid of my Detroit Locker!!!
Spit the spiders out of two differentials before the Detroit, and it had been bulletproof!

I dont think those thing are straitblockers.

Aren't they the one kink of a mix between open and locked & like but not LSD

OWW Then it locks the when the drive wheel looses traction & spins

I don't want to have to change out clutch packs in a differential regularly. Dana's are not fun to work on.
I just need a better drive line design. I occasionally drag race this truck.
Looks like my gear vendors will solve my issues.

If you need a driveline do a search for Tatton's driveline service. I got 2 CV drivelines with all spicer parts to my door for $500 for my jeep. Guy can build anything you want and has good service. I beat the crap outta my jeep (1ton diff's and 40's) in the rocks and never had a driveline isssue. Buddy has same setup as me and same drivelines and never an issue.
