Door Lock Problem
Door Lock Problem
I have an 89 W250 that has a problem with the lock mechanism on the driver's side door. If I shut the door(or any other jarring action) I cannot push the button down to lock it from the inside. If I go outside the truck, I have to push in the door opener in and there is a click & then I can push the lock button down & shut the door. Also, when I need to unlock it from the outside with the key, I have to turn the key swiftly & several times to get it to unlock. It is as if the inside locking button isn't going all the way up. There is no problem with the passenger side. Does anyone know if this can be fixed without replacing the whole mechanism? Thanks for any replies.
Do you have the power door locks? If yes then disconnect the linkage to the electric actuator which is in the lower left of the door looking from the inside. See if that fixes the problem. If not then perhaps the mechanism needs to be lubed. Get a tube of the white grease and take the mechanism out and lube it up real good and see if that helps. Otherwise check the boneyard to see if you can fins one. Shouldn't cost more than about $30.

Door Lock Problem
I should have mentioned that it the most basic trim level truck with manual door locks. I did try lots of spray lubricant that basically does nothing. Something is broken since it is wierd that when you cannot push down the lock button, pushing the outside door handle opener makes a click & then I can lock the door.
YEah it sounds like there's something messed up in there. There's 3 screws in the door panel that need to come out after you take off the inside handle. 2 are about 4 inches up from the bottom at front and back and 1 is behind the handle you just took off. Then the panel just prys off. Don't lose the little clips that hold the panel on but if you do or any are broken they're available at AutoZone.
Wear a long sleeve shirt and expect to get some nice scratches on your hand when you undo the clips that hold the linkage rods in place. The mechanism then just unbolts from the outside.
There might be just so much rust in it that the WD-40 won't lube right. Otherwise get a good one from the bone yard.

Im not sure 100% sure of your description but it sound slike the smae thing mine does. except i have power locks. Im notr sure but I think i have trouble unlocking it outside with thye key if I try and open the door first and then realize its locked and have to use the key, but most the time when that happens i have to go throught the passenger side to get it open
It must me deja vu or some kind of bad juju but when I went out to supper a while ago I couldn't get in mine with the key. I had to go round to the other door and open it with the power lock switch. Maybe we should kill this thread before anyone else gets problems.
