Dodge is winning the game of stump the chump
Guys and gals,
In an effort to reduce the hazing at all RPMs, cold or warm, towing or empty I have troubleshot the pump, AFC (which had a stuck pin effectively disabling the AFC), turned down the fuel screw, let out the smoke screw two turns above stock, tightened the starwheel, rotated the pin back to stock, bled the injectors, re-tightened said fuel lines on both the pump and injector ends, and tightened the fuel filter.
Haze smells like normal diesel exhaust, not sweet, not sour, not white, not blue per se, mostly just light grey.
New fuel and air filters are on the way, there is no fuel in the oil, I just had an oil change and cannot perceive any loss of oil from the dipstick.
The net result of all of these efforts is nil. Not one iota of change.
I'm convinced it's air in the system but from where?
I'm stumped...what am I missing?
As always thanks for looking and any advice you offer.

I got it licked. I pulled the air filter out, started it and there was zero haze and running smoothly. There's the problem. A three year old air filter with 20000 miles of county road dust. I was told it was replaced before I purchased but clearly it had not. Put in a new Napa filter and it runs better than it ever has.
Lesson learned. Baseline ALL mx practices upon purchase. Filters, fluids, belts.
Thanks for all of your ideas and advice. You guys and gals offer a great support group for this 1st Gen sickness. Now it's time to tune properly.

that's good you found it I seen a straight six in a dodge work van that came into the dealership once that would not start because of a air filter being dirty I checked for spark then pulled cleaner cover off & checked for gas from carb tried to start it & it fired right up put the air cleaner back on & it would not start pulled the air filter out & held up to light & no light could be seen through filter I could not believe it would not start. I let a couple other mechanics check it out because they would not believe it would not start until i showed them. I have also seen air filters dirty enough to pull the back barrels of a 4 barrel carb open making them run very rich.Just goes to show you what a simple preventive maintenance will do
