Do we need vacuum pumps on this engines?

On My 89 the VP is starting to pull less and less vacuum, I only have one bc I have this on My ford (would not fit with two) but I was thinking, can I just remove them both?. If I do I will provably get one from a PSD.
Btw I have hydroboosted brakes so I don't need it for the brake booster.
Thank You.

Your HVAC system probably needs vacuum to operate, but that could easily be supplied by an electric vacuum pump.

A lot of luxury cars have electric vacuum-pumps scattered around on them; any of these would be sufficient to operate the A/C functions.

I ?think? that the hydro-boost Ford diesels also have an electric pump.

I think there is a 4bt application with an adapter that allows the PS pump to bolt directly to the timing case. In my internet browsing I seem to remember reading this. But I may be making it up.....

You are correct. They were used on 4BT applications in the bread van's. I remember a site being posted here for all kinds of parts for that application and I remember seeing those adaptors for direct bolt on of the power steering pump.

I remove the canister alone and install a small plate with gasket maker to cover the hole.

That's what I'd do.

Also put in a vacuum pump and tank, with a check valve between the two. That way the pump only has to run when the vacuum gets low.

Looking at this from another angle, an old Electrolux plugged into an inverter will make more than enough vacuum to work the A/C switches and also has a real factor, besides probably being free.

Heck, plumb the crankcase breather into the electrolux, too, while you're at it, help seal the rings up and decrease pumping losses.

Only problem is the sweeper bag will get oily and plug up. You will have to change it every other day and have you seen the prices on those things latley ? Seriously guys this is 2011 GO BAGLESS!!! Get a DYSON or maybe even a shark. Anyway it only cost a few bucks for the kit to fix it. and besides you wont have to spend the time wiring up a pump or trying to find the right adapter for the power steering pump.
