i recentley bought 1992 dodge ram 250 with cummins diesel. happy with truck other than agrowl and poping sound from rear end when making sharp turns up grades at low speeds. seems to be more pronounced when turning right. have had drive train sounded all the way to rear end.seems to me this is my last option as the u joints tranny and all wheel bearings including rear are sound. my question is, is my rear end bad .its a dana spicer 70 with 3.54. any input or advice would be appreciated.

 

Try a bottle of limited slip additive in the rear end.

 

will give it a try. i am new to site so bare with me. do you think this will cure problem. goes great down the road at highway speeds.thanks for your advice it is greatly appreciated.

 

Maybe the PO installed a locker (ie. Detroit Locker)? They commonly make clunking sounds when turning sharp (which usually occurrs at low speeds).

 

It sounds like it's the clutches in a a limited slip diff making the noise. If that's the case, the additive will cure it.

Pull the diff cover, drain and inspect the parts. If good, then refill with clean gear oil and additive.

 

When I changed oil in the rear diff. the dealer recomended 2 bottles of additive.

 

As long as it is a posse unit then 2 bottles will do the trick!!!! if it is a open diff (in nurtrol you can turn one tire( off the ground) whiall the ether is on the gronund) then you stilll need to keep looking for you problem!
