Did the pot fix, now it's the cruise

So I did the potentiometer fix and it's the bomb!!

Now when I engage the cruise control, it speeds up to around 68-70 even when I slow down to 55 before engaging it.

Is it possible that the CC reads the volts from the TPS or something? I'm not very electrical, but it seems to me that this would be an explanation for why it goes to the same speed regardless of where I set it. Mind you, I've only tried this at 55, 60, and ~62, but I get the same result every time.

Thanks in advance to the DTR think tank!
Mike

Mine is a 5 speed but for awhile was doing simular. I would set it and all of the sudden it would go WOT up to about 75-80 and level off, then it would slow down to the speed I set it at and do it again. It ended up being a poor connection at the speed sensor. Got that fixed and no more problems, till the new injectors that is. Now its crazy again because the throttle is so touchy. Just 1/4" throttle its cruising 70mph, 3/8" throttle and its 85. lol So just the slightest tap of the go pedal and it jerks.

Is the speed sensor the one on the side of the tranny? I'll check that, but since it didn't have this problem before, I'm still pretty suspicious about the pot.

MIne worked good the first couple days after i did the p/meter...now it's doing the same thing yours is...I thought i actually cured it at first, because it was screwed up before i did the potentiometer. I think it may have something to do with where you have your dial set...

I haven't had enough seat time yet to see if changing the dial setting will affect the speed control. I may drive it to work some this week and see what happens. It was cold here (only 32, I know...) so I figured I'd wait till tomorrow when it won't matter that I forgot to plug it in.

Thought I'd follow up on this... I got it to hold speed by turning the **** up a bit instead of down. Go figure.

I'm still going to put a TPS back on b/c I think it will sell more quickly, but it's been a great learning experience and I hope maybe it'll help one or more out there.

my cruise works flawlessly with the dial about 2-3 o'clock. Shift points vary there between 35 and 55 mph. I think that's my sweet spot.

Check your vacuum system for leaks.
