DAP injection pumps

Okay so one of dads trucks injection pump started leaking fuel between the head rotor and the pump body (pretty common for the large O-ring to fail). So I wanted to try something different with this truck since its used to tow and haul more than the other trucks he has. Not my freight train mind you but his version LOL. Anyways the pump specialist we had taken two of our pumps to years back passed away so instead of trying a local shop (that is well known around state line PA) I wanted to go with a brand name known more for its injectors than pumps. I ordered a stage 1 pump from DAP today and hope to have it by Friday (they are in Utah) so I can get it in possibly Sun or Mon. I've never ran a truck with a 3200 gov spring or the Denny pin as I was always to chicken to tear into my factory pump that was running perfectly. So I am excited to say the least.

Now for the reason for the posting. Has anyone ever ran either their stock, stage 1, or stage 2 pumps before? If so what experience did you have? Thanks everyone.

RAM

RAM,
I don't know anything about DAP personally, but if you have never run a 1st gen with a 3200 spring or a Denny T fuel pin in it, I can say this...you are going to like it.
Sometimes tuning a pump with the Denny T in it takes a little work to get the smoke down to what I like [not much] but it can be worth the effort.

The 3200 spring alone is worth the price of admission.

I agree, on a 5 speed truck in particular, the 3200 spring is a great, cheap upgrade.

I actually bought a Denny T stage 1 pin and a 3200 spring about 10yrs ago. I always said the day I had to rip the pump off freight train to have it rebuilt I would get them installed. That day (knock on wood) has never happened and I couldn't fathom messing with a pump that was working perfectly. I am excited to get the IP on dads flatbed. Should receive tomorrow.

If you don't want to pull the top off to install the governor spring, take the high idle screw out and pitch it and adjust your throttle linkage to get full travel. Not quite as good as the 366 spring, but much better than stock.

I was able to get the factory injection pump off and the DAP pump on today. I only took the truck for a 2 or 3 mile run as I wanted to verify it didn't have any leaks. I must say the truck really woke up. I think that internally the factory pump had become weak. The truck had lost it power that is now back. I did notice a bit of smoke that clearly wasn't there before so I think the fuel pin is doing its job. I want to ask y'all who have installed the Denny T stage one pin. I have a set of POD's that I can install but I think since this is dads truck he should make that call. I think he is going to like the truck as it is and I don't want to create a monster that builds high egt's while towing heavy up mountains. So should I leave it as is? Thanks

Without driving it, my guess is no injectors will be necessary for a tow rig.

I have also heard the PODs are a smokey injector and will likely lower MPG.

I have a Denny Stage 1 in my '90 that is pretty much used for trailer duty. I have the pump turned up and all the other mods that don't cost any money, along with the IC, a 3200 rpm gov spring and the HX35. It is very impressive and can pull more than it should without getting super toasty EGT numbers.

The FireWagon I built is a Denny Stage 2, 3200 rpm gov spring and HX35. It gets a little hotter and has more smoke under the turbo, but it is a 20 mpg ride, with me and a passenger and a cooler of IPAs.

All around I am a fan of Denny T stuff, and neither of my pins is scoring or breaking down like others have experienced.
