Dancing Speedometer
Hey guys, continuing now from this scenario:
https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...s-good-330390/
I have driven about 4k miles, the speedometer is now dancing, probably a 20-30 mile spread (I am doing 80 and it is bouncing between 90 and 120). From what I have read, it could be the VSS? Any input on this?
Also, will this higher speed reading make my odometer turn faster, or is that separate?
Finally, if it is the VSS and I cannot change it until I return home, about 3500 miles, will I damage anything by driving?
Thanks guys!

The speedo reading off usually results in the ODO reading being off as well.
I converted my '95 dually from 4.10 to 3.54 gears but did not change the speedo gear in the T-case.
My speedo reads almost 20% off as does my ODO. When my speedo reads 50, I am almost doing 60 MPH.

I'm having the same problem. I've traced it back to bad wiring between the VSS and the speedo, most likely between the VSS and the connector at the back of the engine.

Any idea where I can get a VSS? OR any speedo related items, I called Dodge and everything is discontinued, closest dealership that has anything is 8 hours away.

Have you checked the little adapter gearbox between the VSS and the transfer case? If it's loose or the casing is cracked, it could cause the speedo to bounce. Happened to me.

Mine finally hard failed and was able to determine which wire failed. Ran a new one.
