dana parts
Randy's Ring and Pinion is a good place. They were the only ones to have the R&P for my Dana 80. I just regeared a Dana 80. The first rear end I have ever done. I think it was a sort of hard job. A lot of thought and research went into it. I needed a few tools that I didn't have.
On the hardness scale- If you can rebuild a manual tranny you can do a rear end.

That was where I got the parts to rebuild the Power Lok in my truck. I didn't need the spreader to get the diff in and out.

Is a D70 like the smaller Dana axles where the shims are inside of the carrier bearings? If so a set of setup bearings would be nice so you don't have to press them on and off to change shims. If your old bearings are in good enough shape you can grind them out on the inside and make your own set.
hmmm, I'm doing my d70 this week---i like the idea of setup bearings made out of the old ones. Will I need a case spreader? I did the front d44 on my w150 last year and used a huge soft mallet, but I got my 70 apart and wow! those pieces are BIG

A big deadblow hammer will do the job. Since yours was not a complete rebuild it probably also went in easier being worn.

yes the shims are inside of the bearings.

I think I'll pass on the 7.17's for now
I've done a few 44's but this will be my first 70 & 60 I hope the deadblow hammer works I'll let every one know how it turns out. Ken
