It's not as likely as on a 2nd gen, but it happens. How lucky do you feel?

Not meaning to highjack the thread, but is there any clearcut way to tell if a previous owner has taken care of the KDP? Preferably without taking the front of the motor apart? If not, what's a good place on the site to find how to fix it? This is one thing I haven't taken care of yet, but need to. I may have the motor out of the truck soon so that'd be as good of time as any to do it I imagine.

You can't tell until you get the timing cover off. https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...threadid=36809

Read that thread and the two threads it links you to and you'll know all you need to know.

Not wantig to seem nasty or anything here but, for anyone who hasn't taken care of this yet it needs to be done!
Just took mine apart today to put a front seal in and the pin wasn't out,but it had moved!! BUT ...ALL the housing bolts were loose
Just so everyone knows, mine has never been apart(till now), I bought it new, and it has 168K on it
I dont know how much longer it would have taken for one or more bolts to fall out, but it was ony a matter of time. Glad I caught it when I did

Loctite, a tab for the pin, and a few hours work = peace of mind
