Couple of questions.

Hello,
I looked thru the sticky and could not find a article on removing and replacing a turbine housing on a H1C turbo. Does anybody have some pics and or tips on this job? I am planning on tackling this tomorrow.
Also while reading the sticky, i came across a article about a valet switch. At the risk of sounding like a fool, what does it do and how does it do it? I understand its to reduce performance when letting others drive the truck right? Please correct me if iam wrong, I just need alittle help. I am a visual person so bare with me! Thanks

Get a big hammer... No. Really.

Take the turbo off the engine and set it on the bench, preferably wooden. Take out the bolts (4) which hold the housing on and then start whacking on the housing in the direction you want it to go, at least as close as you can get. Beat on one side for a few minutes then switch to the other side. Check carefully to see if it has moved any each time. Be careful when it starts moving to not tip it to far and ding the turbine blades inside.

It might be easier if you take off the compressor housing but if your aim is bad and you hit the flange you could ding it really bad and cause problems. I took off mine which seemed to make hitting the housing in the right direction easier.

I sprayed it liberally with WD-40 but I don't know if this helped but it didn't hurt.

When your arms get tired go get your brother-in-law to wail on it while you rest.

Have fun!

Edwin

I had a stubborn housing stuck to a turbo last fall. I beat and beat, and sprayed and sprayed, to no avail. What DID work was to take a 24oz framing hammer (or you can use any other suitable, similarly sized prybar type tool) and put the front of it on the backside of the impellar housing, with the "claw" part on the exhaust housing. I hit the "hammer part" of it (which was sticking out toward the rear; side of where you strike the nail). Broke right loose with only one hit on each side. If I had a camera handy, I'd snap a shot. You know, picture; 1000words........

Yes, quite a bit. Check the sticky for info (near the bottom of "Performance") and post any questions that link doesn't answer.

Ah, I see.

Several discussions on valet switches:

https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...ighlight=valet

The best discussion is in this one, but it doesn't get to valet switches until post # 210 (page 14 or so).
