Copper tack spray insetad of the gaskets

Anyone ever tried installing POD's with just copper tack instead of the copper washers? Was thinking about lapping the injector bodies like you would a valve to make sure I have a good seal.
What the heck, I'm going to try it. My truck ran frighteningly well before, so it should be interesting. Maybe the POD have will be less!

Isn't that going to lower the injector tip twords the piston a scary amount? Also you feel it will stop the compression?

Not sure I understand, the injector is over the bowl in the piston. Don't understand the compression comment, can you rephrase?

The copper washer is a compression seal along with being a spacer to place the tip where it needs to be in the bowl.

A little goop won't replace the sealing of the copper washer. You're dealing with dissimilar metals, heat, and impact.

Appreciate the input. It's just that valves are dissimilar than their seats, but they seal well. Shouldn't be any movement there, if there were compression would leak out. Copper tack is made of copper so it transfers heat. Been using it on steel shim head gaskets for 36 years without one failure. Since the spray pattern is so much wider on POD's the further down I can get them the more efficient the combustion/flame front. As it is no I have competing flame fronts that waste energy (and lots of blow-by and haze).

I see your points, and hope you prove me wrong but I don't see it working. Will the hold down nut even tighten the injector down enough to seal? What size washers were you running before, I think they come in 0.010 and 0.020", wonder if a guy in your situation could find a very thin washer to seal it and get the fuel in the bowl?

Good points. I think I have plenty of leeway on the hold down nut. Lapping the seats with dye should tell me weather I can make it work. If not I will try to find wafer thin seals. I need to get those tips down as far as I can.

The valve to seat joint is a totally different deal. The metals are hard steel and hard steel. Besides that, there is much movement between the surfaces.

The injector is steel, and the head is cast iron, with very different thermal expansion characteristics.

Anyway, you're going to try it. Let us know how it works.

You are probably right. I think that in such a small scale the expansion differences would be negligible. I am confident enough with my calculations that I am willing to give it a try. The worst that can happen is I have small combustion spike leaks. I will check with soapy water!

Of course all of this could be crap. I will post the results, good and bad.

As for now, gotta figure out how many new valves I have to buy!
