cooling fan

What do you for a cooling fan when yours cracks? will the plastic fans from the 3rd gen work on my 1999 diesel or do I spend the 750.00 for flexlite electric fans. I just can't see 700.00 for a used one that just might crack anyway. Any thoughts ? thanks Lee
