There is a dirt track but...No track to speak of but that dosen't keep some of us from running hard. (they just repaved 8 miles of highway between N. pole and Fairbanks)

We got all kinds of cars, trucks and motorcycles here. Smart driving goes a long way. I spent my first winter driving here (age 16) in a 66 Barracuda with bald tires!

I'll never forget somebody posting that when his neighbor tried to start his PowerStroke on cold mornings it sounded like he was molesting a sewing machine. I love the way a 1st gen with a good battery and a tight fuel system just snaps to life while lesser diesels are cranking away.

Well, normally I wouldn't mind, but it started as a good how-to thread. I split off both the "I can't believe 1st gens are that quick" discussion and the cold weather discussion to try to keep it on track.

Normally I don't interfere if everyone's having a good time and playing nice.

oh thats funny, nothin starts faster than a good running 12 valve. I knew a ford guy years a go, wish i had video of that -ewh it should would make him mad talking about fords. When it got down in the 50s or heaven forbid colder, he had near 100 amps of power out to that stupid junky ford! Im talking heating pads, oil dip stick heaters windshield washer heaters, 2 block heaters, somekind of a industrial headed wrap on the oil pan, litteraly a heat pad lied across the motor with the hood down on it. da--est thing i ever seen in my life! On top of that the heater core was out and loop bypassed so when or if he got that turd running he froze to death driving it, video of this and i prob. could have retired early! He hated the thought of a dodge, wouldnt ride i mine for nothing, i used to start about august or sept. on him " well going to start getting cold pertty soon" he hated it bad. Hindsite i think he was broke or tight or maybe dumb and hardheaded but prob. could have replaced a few glow plugs and been ok, but hed rather spen 200-300 in elect. every night instead. Priceless -

I'm swapping a 1st gen on My truck so I share the love You guys have for your engines but just to be fair that ford had the head lights ON while using the glow plugs, that will drain a lot of power from the cold batteries (maybe older than the ones on the cummins?) I have other ford diesels and every one of them will start just as fast as the cummins in the video in the coldest mornings (-20).
