Cummins VS PSD cold start

Same day , same place , same temp (you can even see the ford in the backround of the dodge video , and hear the dodge running in the ford vid.)

Lol, I had a powerstroke back in the day, a 7.3 though. It started perfect in cold weather after putting some 5-40 syn oil in it. That poor 6.0 haha apparently the new flash that purges the injectors after shutdown helps them start a lot better in cold mornings.

Oh well, I'll stick with my Cummins

We used to light off our 7.3L service trucks with ether on those cold mornings... lost several airfilters and half an eyebrow (not mine ) over the years.

I had a 01 PSD, and that thing had to be inside or pluged in below 15 or forget about it.My 91 cummins starts a little hard at -2 but it starts without the plug.I plug it in anyway, its easier on the parts. My 05 is never left outside when its that cold.

I could sit and watch that powerstroke start all day. I find it particularly amusing when it splutters to a stop just as JKM gets out of the cab....

I counted roughly a minute and a half before it is running to the point where you don't think it is going to stall again. Hope you didn't have to be anywhere in a hurry that morning.

Watching again, I become kind of disappointed at the Cummins.

It, like, waited until the 2nd revolution to fire... Tsk tsk...

Yes, us first genners do get spoiled with the first crank firing.

Thanks for the vids. That powerstroke is such a joke... I cringe around here when I see some guy in a brand new 6.0 thinking it's the greatest truck and its ready for "super duty". If they only knew anything about the engine they are buying. I should stand outside the ford dealership with these vids on a laptop!

Editing my post. I didn't know I couldn't say dealership with steal at the beginning? Oh well.

My friend has a 95 powerstroke, I watched on a 40*F morning when his glow plug relay was bad, it wouldn't start, wouldn't even try till he jumped it with a screw driver, then it fired right up.
I of course had one of the 93's which I didn't even jump in too start, told him to watch how a real truck is supposed to start. Of course it didn't even make one revolution before it started.

Last winter my dad was in NY state and when he went to start the truck the intake heaters wouldn't come on. So at +5*F he started it, had to crank it 3 times, but started. He complained of course till I told him if he had taken the powerstroke which we no longer have and the same thing happened he'd have to till spring to get it running.

In all fairness, when the temps are that cold outside, I dont like to start in the mornings either.
