cab roof repair
the first time I drove my truck after the crankshaft repair, I couldn’t believe how much noise the ROOF was making. I decided to get it fixed, and eliminate the clearance lights, the holes for which I believe were admitting water. some pics follow

ragged

cut line
big ol’ hole
weldin in fresh metal
primed, no mo’ screw holes from clearance lights

That looks pretty nice, how many hours did it take to do that job?

the body guy started work on Wednesday at noon and primed it on Saturday. he told me that he loves working on older vehicles that are actually constructed of metal. the shop quoted me $1,200 for the job, but I asked them to build a shelf inside the cab so it may be more. I'm leaving the inside of the cab roof metal, I hate that headliner. and I'm not re-installing any of that plastic trim that is all cracked up. if I could find a grey bench seat I would get ride of the red one.

I’d say the repair looks good. so did the body guy hit the rust with a reformer or coating before welding the patch in?
If my drip rail was worse off over the doors I’d really think about shaving the drip rail off still might depending on how I feel when I start digging in.

@AgnryJohnny: the entire area was thoroughly coated with a rust converter. since I'm eliminating the clearance lights, no more water intrusion from the screw holes by the time the roof needs to be re-done, I'll be too old to drive the beast.

The repair looks quite good. Kudos to you to do it on your own. I will certainly take notes from your hard work. Keep up your work and keep posting and motivating us.
