roof repair
have the east coast roof rot on my 89.you can see the three layers of sheet metel in the roof everyone talks about in the first picture.cut a piece out of an old club cab roof to repair roof and drip rail.seems like the old style roofs don't rust like the newer type.ready to weld in.

Nice work.
Looks like something I'll have to accomplish as well in the future. Thanks for the pix. Really explains the process from a perspective that makes it easier to understand.

I'm so paranoid about the rust developing in the roof of my 93 D350, that I WD-40 it every year through the cab lights mounting screws and trim screws inside the cab.

I doubt the WD does any good as it dries up quickly. The only use I ever had for WD was using it as a flamethrower(wasp & bees) or starting diesels. Now it is not even good for that because they changed the formula.

my headliner is all misshapen from water being on it...I'm too a-scared to remove it to see what kind of nightmare lurks beneath
what is the usual cause of a leaky 1st gen roof?
faulty design?
poor construction?

sortie,i sure would like to know that also.seems like the old style roofs(like the club cab used)don't seem to rust like the first gen roofs.the older style roof seem to be welded a little different at the drip rail.i also noticed the roofs are always rotted more on the passenger side.could this because the driver door gets opened more and causes more ventilation to flow on the drivers side?

I believe moisture is the cause. Poor seam sealing, no protection inside and it is nearly closed. All invite rust.
In moist climates, I believe it will condense inside the roof.

I get no pictures as well.
But I can imagine what they are picturing as I have seen over the windshield rot many times on a 1st gen.
I haven't seen cseby post in years.

shop broke my windshield re-installing it and of course Chrysler discontinued the glass years ago so we’re waiting for Safelite to order their version of the replacement and install it tomorrow. tried to post pics from my phone to no avail
