braggin on the First Gen

So i bought a superclean 24v about a week ago. Smooth ride, nice options, looks great, blah, blah, blah........., will get its butt firmly whipped by the old first gen!! I know there is a weight difference, but come on! The old 90 model will seriously smoke it. Gonna be getting a lift pump system and then a chip/tuner, exhaust, intake, gauges, etc. All the stuff i said i wouldnt do! It will probably tow a lot cooler, but i gotta at least match the power/acceleration i am used to or i won't be happy. I have even found myself avoiding powerstrokes at stop lights! That never happened in the 90.

Anyway, just wanted to say that the first gens are STILL the best trucks on the road....even though i am daily driving this slow 24v

The weight difference is what makes it faster. You have the 1st gen bumped up to the stock rating of the 24v. That was the one bad thing I experienced when going from my 91 to the 01.

I bet the '90 is making a good bit more torque than the '01.

I think so too Wanna! I have never dyno'd it, but man is it torquey. Really sets you back in the seat at any speed in all gears. The 24v feels more like a gasser to me, good pull above 2k. Maybe its torque management or something? Do 24v's have that?

The 5 speed trucks don't. You only have 460 ftlb at the crank on that truck though, your 1st gen is probably putting close to 600 on the ground.

yeah i love the old 12v for sure! I just couldn't pass up this deal on the 24v. 2002 quadcab with leather and all power and options, but with a rubber floor and a 5 speed. Thats just what i wanted!! And i stole it from the dealership! I talked them down to $10,100 because it was on their lot for 2 months. Nobody buys 5 speeds round here. Oh, and its got 126k on it, I think thats a good deal.

jm025, are those the only mods on your 90 listed in your sig? My dad has a 01 6spd, and bone stock it is a bit faster than my truck, though pulling is closer cause i have 4.10 and his feels higher..though I heat up FAST. Dang, i want 600ftlbs on the ground.

u.s mma- 600 to the ground is not all that hard to achieve, nor that expensive.

I guess i was just lying to myself to think i wasn't gonna end up modding it! A bone stock Cummins! HA!

Yeah those are the only mods on the 90. I cant explain the mystery injection pump. Its from Cummins and is stamped Phase II on the data plate. Could be nothing, could be a performance tuned pump. Of course I have set the fuel how i want it.

The lift pump could be getting weak. That will slow it down. I used to tow with an 01 QC 5 speed. My 93 would walk all over it loaded or not.
