Boost problem

The other night I was driving and my truck lost boost. It won't go over 10 psi and all my truck will do is pour black smoke. Any ideas on whats wrong? Wastegate?

First thing I would check is the rubber intercooler boot connections. Maybe a tear or clamp came off. Might want to fill out your signature with truck info. I am assuming yours is an intercooled truck and not an early non IC truck.

I can't figuer out how to fill out that dang thing.. lol

My truck is intercolled. It has a Banks Big Head wastegate that's stuck shut. I can't pull it open. I've checked over everything.

Having a wastegated turbo with a stuck wastegate would not cause low boost. If anything, that could result in a overboost condition under heavy load/fueling. If you look at the radiator area you will see the intercooler in front of it. On the driver side and passenger side of it there is a 3 inch connecting pipe attached with rubber boots and tension clamps. Check those connections and the condition of the rubber boots there. Perhaps there is leak or hole in the intercooler itself? That would be the next place I would look.

But why all of a sudden would my wastegate actuator be stuck, shouldn't it be easy to make the od move, Not extremely hard?

The waste gate controller should be almost impossible to move. As was suggested, check all the boots and clamps.
Also check for an intake restriction.

Thank you, I had a bunch of guys telling me that the rod should be easy to move, and I thought it was true because where the rod hooks up is like a free moving part.

Its the other end of the rod that makes it tough to move (actuator). With the wastegate actuator rod pulled off the turbo then the wastegate itself should move easily.

And it was a lose hose that was wrong. I feel like a complete dumb ***. All that work for a 2 minute fix. Thanks for the information guys.

Glad you got it fixed! When you say it was a loose hose, I assume it was one of the clamps on the intercooler boots?
