I'm not aware of any governor switch. Maybe he was banging on the KSB solenoid?

There is a little pressure regulator that controls the internal pump pressure vs engine speed that is inside the pump up there. If it were stuck open, then you would have low internal pump pressure, excessively retarded timing, etc. I wouldn't feel very comfortable about banging on it to un-stick it, but if it works I suppose it might be better than rebuilding the pump

Hopefully it will last for a while. I am surprised that injector cleaner didn't loosen it up.

Thanks for the info!!

Ummmm.....he's talking about the littel spool valve on the front of the pump. It regulates the supply side internal pressure. It can be adjusted, but,,,, it needs to be done carefully and in steps....speaking from experience here guys...
They are set accurately when the pump is on a stand.......
If by chance you push it too far down the way to correct it is simple....pull the pump apart and push it thru all the way, then, reinstall it thru the top and go at it again....not fun..

This is one of those adjustments that alters the high pressure sides' operational pressures on a "downstream" basis.

pb....

edit: there is a numerical value assigned to that setting...the most common values range between 2.6 and 3.6 using the pump stands' instrumentation.
What concerns me is the cause of the original need to make that adjustment in the first place. You may find that you'll have the same problem again...or, it may not occur for some time.
