I've been looking at some templates on bumpytrucks profile and see a mount for a BHAF called old smokey mount. Is it a fully enclosed casing for the BHAF or is it open just like it shows in the pictures? Also can i pick up a filter like this from napa? Does it allow more airflow then a K&N? Are they rechargable like a K&N?

thanks in advance

Jeff

the mount is not fully in closed its mainly just a water/heat shield.
the part numbers are in teh tech section, yes napa has them. PN = 2790 i think.
i just orded mine only for 42 bucks and cruently have open air K&N and will install hopefully today for my towing camping trip this weekend to see if ther eis a difference.

they are not re chargable but last 10k-15 easily.

I switched over a couple of months back from a cone type K&N RE0880 and to the BHAF. Honestly, I think it hurt performance. Just doesnt seem to have the low end spoolup or turbo noise like before. So, the K&N will be going back on.

No, the RE0880 is about 10" wide at the base and narrows down to about 4" at the top and is about 12" long overall with a 4" inlet. I ditched the OEM air filter and piping setup and ran it without the box and with 4" exhaust pipe for the piping to the turbo.

That's odd Monty, the BHAF helped me. I picked more hp, 1 mpg, and 1.5-2psi of boost. Although, I do have three 1.5" holes drilled above the bumper in front of the air snorkle in the firewall. It forces air to and in the filter while driving down the road (ram air??).

Tommy, what filter were you running previously and what type of setup? The RE0880 itself is one of the best flowing filters out, however K&N's arent for everyone.

I was running the K&N that replaced the stock filter. It did help with just replacing the paper, then I drilled about four 2" holes in the air box, that help a little more, then drilled 1 1/2" holes above the bumper to push air into the airbox, that helped significantly.

I tried two air filters but more trouble than what its worth. The Wix BHAF has helped the most. I took out the airbox and put the BHAF there.

I'll try to take some pics of the air holes in front to show everyone what I'm talking about and a few other mods I think everyone will drool over.
