bad idea.....

so today on my way home from work i was driving through town and i was going a little fast so i dropped my truck in neutral (i have no idea y) and i started coasting down the hills, well when i go to the bottom i decided to put it in drive and continue home. well i didnt work like that. i reached for the shifter and bumped it down a gear instead of up into drive and the slammed into reverse. well iwas only gogin about 15 or 20 but i felt my tires lock up and my tires screech. so i reached real fast for the shifter but at the same time it shut the truck off so i put it back in neutral and started it and put it in drive and continued on. will this have any ill affect on my trans????? or will my trans blow up now!?!?!?

I did the exact same thing a while ago. Scary huh? I'd just adjust the bands next time you change the filter. The 727's are pretty darn tough.

I was driving through town the other day and went to throw an can into my bed through my back window. Well I hit the gear shifter with my knee and stuck it into park. Thankfully the roads were covered in sand/salt from all the snow the few days before because the tires just locked up and slid like i was hitting the brakes. Was hard drifting around cars on a one way street where my truck didn't barely fit to begin with until i realized what was going on.

I did it intentionally on a '70 Chevy with a 6 cyl in hs. Long time ago. Going about 60. Had to jam it awful hard. Then I floored it and dumped the clutch. Made tons of smoke. We we're probably going 50 by the time the tires started roasting going backwards. It was dumb, but in hs, waht else would you expect. My buddy (the owner) thought it was cool.

Also was able to get this truck all the way into a third gear (three on the floor) burnout with the wheels against a bump stop.

Then for no reason, the motor just blew up about 6 months later.

neat trivia

I was doing some reading on early torqueflites. Evidently the pre-66 had some sort of dump valve to prevent the engagement of reverse gear when the vehicle was moving forward.

Cast iron ones had a reverse blocker valve.

I did that to a 69 Coronet twice, at 60 mph, never hurt trans.
