Automatic trans problems
Automatic trans problems
On my 93 cummins I have a 518 trans. I did several upgrades including torq converter, Alto Red eagle power pack clutches and koleen steels, shift kit and larger trans coolers. I managed to twist the center out of the flex plate, brake a lug off of the torq converter and now I have a shudder in 2nd gear.
And by the way, when I would put it in park it was like it was still hanging in gear a little. Any suggestions ? I need a better flex plate, where can I get one ?

As for a flex plate stock second gen seems to be popular. What converter did you get and is it repaired ? And second gear could be in the valvebody did you do the build ? Also try to adjust the shift linkage that could help with the shudder and gear hangup.
Yes I did the build. I installed a Precision converter and it is new, not repaired. I made it a point to call and talk to them first before I even bought one. It was made for towing. when I installed it my towing temps dropped 20 degrees. That is the good part. The bad part is that everything was working great until I was directed to a very soft campsite with a 15000 lb 5th wheel. The shift linkage has been checked and as for the valve body, what part of it should I be looking at?
No, it was great at first. After doing some checking into this problem I found out that the Alto red eagle power pack clutches for the trans was a mistake for my application. They are great for drag racing, sled pulling or off road racing. But for towing, they are not made for this. I will be ordering a master kit from DTT. It has upgrades for 2nd and third gear besides the clutch pack upgrades. I will be keeping the updates on this build coming.
