98.5 automatic transmission problems

Hi. I have asked this question pretty much for everywhere now, so I'll try it here.

My Dodge has 94000 miles on the clock and I have some problems with the trans, it sometimes jumps over the first gear when your accerlating and it dont understand shift to the overdrive until you release the pedal a little. And the third and worst problem is that when it locks the turbine in overdrive the whole trucks shakes couple of seconds like your be driving over some serious bumps.

What's the problem? My gas pedal feels little wobbly but I dont think that's the problem?

That shudder going into lockup is bad news. It means that the T/C is on its way out. It is scrubbing off "clutch" material when it does that, it will eventually destroy the whole tranny.

Oh, ****...

It just arrived here from Florida, and if I'm going to buy new tranny, it's gonna be DTT transmission, but the main problem is, how I can get it here. I've heard that dtt dont ship those anywhere else than usa and canada...

But hey, is there any possibility to disconnect the lock? It might last longer in that way.

I dont have that much money right now, so I'm hoping that I can drive another 15000miles with the old tranny.

My friend just got his dtt transmission, it total price was about 6500bucks so it's not cheap.

This is not a recommended "fix", but it MIGHT work, go get a valve body kit (shift kit) it might help out enough with that shudder and give you more time so that you can save the money for a transmission.

You should probably try resetting the APPS, that can help out. Have you checked out the TV cable to see that is it adjusted properly?

I'm pretty sure that I'll pass the valve body, I dont get those here either.

What is a TV cable?

Where is here? It is a cable that runs from the throttle shaft on the IP down to the tranny.

Here is in Finland, a small nation between Sweden and Russia.

Ok, thanks I'll check that cable too.

My only contact lives in Florida and if I order the tranny from Canada it has to be shipped first to Florida(cos they dont ship those trannys anywhere else than Usa and Canada) and then my "dealer" import it here in Finland.

If I could only knew someone trustworthy from Canada it would be much cheaper.

There are several things that can cause TC shudder, injectors, pump timing, and even transmission oil. I would say that about 80 % of lthe TC shudder i have personally diagnosed have been ATF oil related. I have also seen injectors cause shudder and in the 24 valve cases the fueling boxes & timing combinations have even caused shudder.

When a TC shudders it is a simple case of the dampner springs within the TC opening and closing. As they are opening and closing there is not enough hp to keep the springs collapsed and too much power to keep the springs (open) for lack of a better term. If your engine is not running smoothly it can also cause a TC shudder.

For assistance with these issues as it applies to your application please feel free to call and discuss in more detail.

What do you guys say about this?
I was thinking that I do Have Hypertech programmer in my truck, I havent ever driven it with stock setups.

So the next thing what I'll do is to remove that Hypertech programmer, then I'll try different ATF oils.

But I'm surprised why he didn't mentioned anything about worn out discs?

Or maybe worn out discs dont cause shudder then?

$ 6500 for a tranny ???? WOW that's high. I had
Dave Goerend prices and a completely rebuild transmission runs approx $ 3600...
I had my TC and VB replaced with theirs and after 83,000 miles I cannot be any happier.
Cost me only $ 1300...and they gladly ship it

According to their site a DTT is about $3700. No core and shipping to Finland is going to add a fair amount. There could be a big whack of tax or duty at the Finland end as well.

And that would be 22% tax +10%custom. Shipping is included to the total price.

But we're use to it,everything is more expensive here, like gas,6.75$ per gallon(1.4€/liter).

But,I'm going to buy it anyway in next year.

I know this sounds simple.... but go change your fluid to AT4 +4 synthetic. drop your valve body partially so you can drain 8 quarts instead of 4 quarts.

lots of feedback of large improvements from simply changing your fluid and filters. hey what do you have to lose?

here's an interesting read: http://216.120.237.3/fix/trans-testimonials.html

Hi Erska!

I'm from Austria and have had absolutely no problem getting my tranny stuff shipped from DTT to me. They will ship, but they will have to give you a separate quote on shipping and handling. (They don't seem to want to keep a list of hundreds of countries shipping costs for hundreds of different parcel sizes and weights up to date)
I'd suggest that the first thing to do would be a standard transmission service- change fluid and filter, adjust bands. Try to remove the superchips to rule it out as a possible cause for the problem.
PM me if I can help you. I speak German and French too.

speak to the folks at ATS concerning your problems. depending upon the product, like commander. ATS is motivated to get your stock tranny working proper. before commander can be installed. so installation instructions has basic trouble shooting included.

please note in no way am I endorsing commander. but I'm sure going to look at ATS favorably. when I do need something.

VS speaking with ATT, who understandably is trying to sell their product too. only their motivation is not to get your stock tranny working. so why should they advise you on low to test/fix your stock tranny. possibly killing a large sale.

this is just my take... your mileage may veri.
