Anybody the original owner of thier 1st gen?
Just curious to see how many people on here are the original owner of their 1st gen. If you are, how much did you pay for it if you don't mind telling. And what made you pick out a 1st gen? Since way back then diesels weren't as popular
as they are now.
I am the 3rd owner of my rig. The 2nd owner paid $25,000 cash for it since the 1st owner had to have the 2nd gen when they first came out.

i'm 3rd, father in law 2nd, grandfather in law 1st. he bought it for pulling his fifth wheel. worked at a tractor trailer repair place i believe he grew to love the cummins there. i will find out the purchase price from my grandmother... she's kept track of every purchase they made over $10 since they were married in like 1949 (not kidding at all! it's a pretty big list)
My Dad was first owner and now me. It started out that my dad and a friend were test driving one becuz they both pulled trailers back then and they were out on a winding road and they slid the pickup sideways around a corner and I believe the exact quote he told me was "Man! We got to have one of these!" So he bought it! I'll have it until I'm dead because I dont want to part with the mechanical engine! Rebuild after rebuild or until death do us part.
Original owner here for $23,700. The sticker price was right at $31K. Custom ordered in November of '93. Took possession in March of '94.
I bought it because it had the Cummins. There was also the fact that the front Dana60 and 70 rear axle, and the NP205, were pretty much bullet-proof with the support of a gazillion out there in service. All that coupled with being handy with a wrench promised the truck would last a good long while. At the time of purchase, the plan was to drive it for 250K miles or 10 years, which ever came first.
We've exceeded the time requirement, and have 33K miles to go on the mileage requirement.
I think I'll keep her.

I have owned my 91 CTD since new, I think I paid about $30K for it.
I bought it to replace the 1980 Chev 100 P/U which had an Old's 350 diesel.
What a piece of s@#t that Old's engine was!

Original owner. Ordered it in February and took delivery in April of 93. Ordered as a single wheel one ton 4X4 with 8' plow, vinyl seats, rubber floor mats, manual windows and no a/c. Paid $23,000.
Bought it because almost everything else I owned, (I was in excavation), had a Cummins in it. I also chose the 93 because I knew it was gonna be the last year for a REAL transfer case and not the aluminum crap they put in everything now. Also the last year for REAL leaf springs up front.
It's sad really... what we call 'one ton' trucks now are more like the 1/2 tons back in the 60's and 70's.
chaikwa.

Not the original owner, but its been in the family its whole life. My grandfather bought it brand new from my uncles dealership. (not sure how much) Then my Grandpa bought a newer 92 I believe cuz it had more options from my uncle and traded in the 89, so then my dad bought the 89 from my uncle for a work truck. Then the rear end went out on it (seized bearing ripped the spindle off) and sat in a field for like 5 years and I told my dad that im gonna put it on the road. Figured I was doing him a favour but now he wishes he never got mny driving it cuz he can't get me out of it. He trys to buy me out with a brand new ram but I tell him everytime I don't want that electronic junk
Mechanical all the way for me!

It was between Christmas and New Years 1993 and my brother called me up as he wanted to go "look at new trucks." O.K. where we going? Oh maybe to Puyallup then to Tacoma and we'll see what they have...O.K. sounds like fun. We looked at Chev 3/4 ton, 4x4 gas trucks as that's what he wanted. He couldn't find exactly what he wanted so our final stop would be Tacoma Dodge. Kind of outta the blue as we were both GM men but whattheheck?? We'll look....trucks or women...we look and today it was TRUCKS.
Any used turbo diesels on the lot?? I asked. Nope the salesman said but I have the LAST 93 on the lot (it was even setting on the USED truck side of thier lot as the new 94's were everywhere about then)...and I can make you a HELL of a deal on it (a statement that later proved phophetic
). I hesitated. I'm NOT looking for a new truck.... You ever drive one of these trucks?, he asked. Here's the keys, take it for a spin. Hell, what was this?? It's my brother that wanted the new truck, NOT me....About 5 miles into the test drive I thought NICE truck!! Considerably nicer than the 1973 GMC 3/4 ton gas hog that was currently getting me around. We got back to the dealership shortly. The factory sticker price was $24k and some change. It was marked down that day to $21,999 and after I saw that I WAS going to be buying a new truck, we got SERIOUS about negotiating. Anyway, after the salesman made a couple of trips in and out of the sales manager's office, I walked out of Tacoma Dodge with a brand new (36 miles showing on the odometer) 1993 for $18,888 ( OR $324.00 per month for what was like eternity which seemed like a LOT of money back then too....). The sales manager accused me of "stealing his last 93" so I probably did get a good deal. I also tagged them for a "lifetime oil change" which in reality means 4 oil, lubes and filters per year, for around $360. I was once accused of trying to pay for that truck in reverse by making them change the oil 4 times a year
but I don't go in there much anymore as they'd REALLY like to sell me another one. Their high prices make resistance to that new rig EASY and if that doesn't do it, the thought of that high assed truck payment SURELY does....
Such fond memories

I am 2nd owner, Father-in-law was first. He purchased the cab and chassis in CO for low 18,000. We went to work - modified the sleeper to fit and painted it and the flatbed to match. He then used the truck to deliver silage bags in intermountain area and I traveled with him on many of the trips. After his death in '98, I was given the truck because I ended up doing the work on his farm. The farm is now sold, but the truck lives on. I love the truck for its simplicity, stableness, and power - not to mention comparative economy. Interesting to note, because my father in law liked to travel and sell and deliver silage bags, my mother in law put an image of the truck on his grave marker oposite a image of a John Deere - which represented farming, his other love.
