A518 OD shift point?

Quick question... in your experiences, what is the typical mph these trannies shift into OD? Mine is shifting into OD between 35 and 40. Bad? or average?

I think it varies a lot depending on how much throttle you apply.

That's sounds about normal compared to the numerous Dodge/Cummins 4 speed autos I've driven. My 92' shifts into 0/d at 35 mph.

same problem here, all my gears shift too early it seems and I've got the tv cable tight as it'll go and zip tied for more. I manually shift it most of the time

I think mind kicks in at around 60 but it depends on the amount of pressure on the pedal like others were saying and it is way to early around 70 would be better this is in kilometers since I am a canadian

I kick my OD in at 32 MPH. For driving around tow I think the quicker you can get into OD the better. Its not like it bogs down the mighty cummins!! Get a POT kit and set it where you feel best.

I can set mine by my right foot. Anything between 30 and 55 mph. Don't ask me how though, I couldn't tell you. When I got it back after I had a guy rebuild it it's not been the same and I had to learn how to drive it all over again. Not bad, just different. He modified the OD valve body... not sure he got it right. Still, it runs fine except for wanting to get itself out of OD at around 65 mph, but that may be more the TPS than anything else. One day, when I actually drive it again, I'll figure it out.

Mine too. Maybe it's supposed to do that... Has yours always been that way Dar? Might be time to POT it. Don't know if that will help or not.

I don't know if it is or not, all i know is i hate it and want it to stay locked in, I,m gettin tired of blowin away P/S's and newer Dodges to 80 and then them driving by and smilling, like they beat me, and in there mind they did even if i was 5 trucks in front to 80.

Yeah, I don't like it either. I have to back off to make it shift into OD, and loose a lot of momentum . It's ok though, we all know who really won the race. Unless you work on the rule of it ain't over til the fat lady sings. That must be pretty annoying, but I wouldn't know. My heap doesn't beat a tortoise. Maybe time for a 47RH? Or a Gear Vendors.
