a518 kickdown band help

How loose should the front band be with the valvebody off ? My trans has not been going into park so i droped the pan today and the little fork off of the kickdown band that fits over the adjustment bolt and into the band had come off and was laying on top of the valve body geting into the way of the shift sector going all the way forword . Ive got the fork back in and there is about an inch of slack before the kickdown piston hits the arm to apply the band. do i adjust it like the book says with the vb off and no fluid in it or should i put it back together and repressure it and then adjust it? thanks gang Terry

Adjust it like the book says right now, you don't need to pressurize anything to adjust bands, tighten to 72 in-lbs. and loosen 2 turns or there abouts, depending on the trans and what your book says.

Hopefully there's nothing wrong with the band.

Thats the same specs as my book, I looked at the band and it doesn't looked burnt, not sure how much pad it suppose to have though. trans only has about 25-30k on a rebuild by quik tranmissions in albuquerque nm so it shouldn't be worn out yet unless its been slipping for those 25-30k miles
