kickdown band replacement in truck?
I have a 2000 cummins 3500 with 47re trans that has only 70,000 total miles. it has lost its friction from the 2nd gear band. I found parts of it in pan during service. It was hunting 1-2 shift under light throttle. I had the same hunting at 30,000 and I washed out the worn friction muck from solenoid and that fixed it. This time I got friction chunks from band but no metal. Can I replace the band in truck? they used to make snapin bands for fords but I can't ever remember doing one on a mopar. I hate to pull this trans since it has no other problems.
you called it front pump mostlikely from the days when some had a rear pump also. you must be old like me! I will try to cut off the band ancor tab and install it and spot weld it back on before i yank it out. the drum is fine because i didnt let it slip for long. the band had good linning left on it just failed maybe because of the hunting at 1-2 shift snaping the band on and off?
