91 SRW 350, Oil Pressure light on at idle
I am the original owner of a 91 SRW 350 with T-intercooler. The truck has 350,000 miles on the engine. The engine still tows heavy equipment as it did new and uses a quart of oil per a 3000 mile change. I have become concerned because the oil pressure light comes on at idle. Anyone else have this problem?
put a good mechanical guage on it and see what it reads. A mechanic friend of mine has one on a short hose puts on stuff he is working on. I always go over and slap it on if I have something in question.
Thanks everyone for the help. The Dodge is a manual tran and even with the idle up to 12 or 13 hundred it stays on. The dealer wants 30 for the pressure sending unit and 50 to install and I'm going to have a manual guage put on it while its hot also.....
you should be able to get a sender from your local parts store for cheaper, and its really very easy to change, I believe that it is near the power steering pump, just unscrew the old one and screw in the new one.
I wouldn't get anything from dealer unless I absolutely had to!!

Thanks for the help. I replaced the sender with a NAPA sender and it works great. It takes a inch and a sixteenth deep socket to remove but I just broke the plastic off the end and a standard inch and a sixteenth socket fit on it to remove. On replacement I was able to get the new on tight enough with a end wrench. Its nice to not see the oil light on at idle anymore!!
Yep, it turned out great....... I had feared the worst, and, the only place I got a straight answer was this forum...... thanks again. The retail was 28.50 at NAPA, 40 OEM and my jobber was 20........
