91.5 Something wrong

First off thanks for all the great advice in the past couple of weeks....

Heres what happened:

3 times now while under excellaration or highway speeds the engine has fallen on it's face, just dropped off. I let of the skinny pedal for a flash and it has picked up. This has happened at about 1200 mile intervals. Then last night I stop at the store, try to start the truck and it just cranks. I play alittle with the water separator valve (no water, I think), then loosen the front injector line, and crank, after a bit it starts. Shut it down, tighten the line and it has started every time since. It seems to me to have dropped off in overall power a little bit, in last the 2000 miles. I have a new filter and will replace today (I don't think the one on there is all that old)

Spec's:
Stock 91.5
intercooler
auto trans

everything stock as far as I know, may have bigger injectors (anyway to tell?)

Thanks
Rich

Sounds like your lift pump may be getting a little weak.

When you cracked the line, did you notice any air coming out of the lines?

Ok, but by "lift Pump" do you mean Fuel pump? In my manual I found not referance for lift pump.

Sorry but I'm really new to the diesel game.

The lift pump is the thing that looks like an old gasser fuel pump right above the starter. It supplies fuel to the injection pump. It sounds to me like you have an air leak somewhere, check all the connections and see if they are tight. Go ahead and throw the filter at it, can't hurt.

OK ... I'm gonna go out on a limb here. This really sounds like a problem with the wiring for the fuel shut off relay. Check the wires that go to it to make sure they are making good contact. Clean them with electrical cleaner and maybe a little emery cloth. I would also "crimp" the female connector onto the lug (just lightly).

I'm saying this because I have had this happen a couple times. Runs fine until you get on it a little. This causes the block to torque over a little and it looses concat on the wiring. Fuel shutoff valve closes and the truck essentially dies. As soon as it returns to it's "normal" position, concact is made again and it runs. When it did not run at all, it sounds like you completely lost continuity.

Hope this helps!
Carl
