Something's wrong

I've asked a few mechanics about this and have gotten varied answers so I figured you guys might be able to help me. When I am running at the same speed usually around 75 or 80. My truck loses all throttle response, I can mash the peddle and nothing happens then the truck will gradually keep losing power then all at once it will pick up and be fine again, I'm puzzled. And another question is how much smoke do most people get with the edge comp installed with nothing but exhaust. I get some but not what everyone sounds like they are getting and help would be appreciated

Got any codes? What's your FP at? You could have a dieing VP44 or you may be a good candidate to have your APPS reset (which worked for me when I had similar problems).

APPS reset

My truck did the same,....dead pedal, which started about three months after I changed the Injection Pump.
Truck had ~90,000 miles.
Installing a new APPS cured the problem.

I'll third the injection pump. Dead pedal + P0216 = dead injection pump on my truck.

APPS (Accelerator pedal position sensor) The thought is that if it is failing, it won't properly recognize when and when your foot is on the pedal. Not likely your problem.

If/When you do find out it is in fact your Injection Pump (VP-44) you will need to replace both the "lift" pump (LP) and the Injection pump, as the likely cause for the VP-44 failure is the LP dieing first and starving your Injection pump.

You'll need to have the codes read first to be sure.

I got my engine scanned and it brought up the code for the injection pump, but I was talking to a guy who said if the lift pump is going bad it may cause the injector pump to throw a code, I figured the smart thing would be to put a lift pump on first and go from there. Is there an aftermarket lift pump that would be a better choice than stock.

The smartest thing you should do is get a fuel pressure guage. I had the same symptoms as you and my fuel pressure was fine. It ended up being the injection pump. I still have the original lift pump. Low fuel pressure can cause the code. Your injection pump might be bad. The thing thats most important is to know your fuel pressure. With all the replacement lift pumps that otheres claim were bad you could very well toss on a new one thats worse than the one you have. With the vp44 history a fuel pressure guage is a must.
