Main thing you'll want to do is take off the front wheels and lube the bearings. Many neglect that since it's hidden. Next is check and see what fluid is in the transfer case and make sure it's not gear oil.
Sounds like a cool original. I like the stock wheels and dog dish hub caps.

Nice score! It looks like an unmolested unit. If I didn't have my CTD RamCharger to chase parts with, my next choice would be a true 1st gen with the "Leaning Tower of Power"!
Those old Dodges had full time 4x4 with a drive flange instead of the external hub like the 1981 -1993 models. They take a little more time and "touch" to rebuild. Definitely not a hard job, but some shops have never seen that technology.

Nice looking score!
Very solid looking metal and a nice growing patina.
Looks like a really late '79 or '80 to me as it has the '80 grille and the raised hood they used started using in '80.
That is a one year only hood latch, and maybe the cable to IIRC.
I found that out when one broke on my '80 RC with that same grille, core support and hood combo.
The slant 6 is one tough motor. I had a '78 power wagon with a slant 6, 4 speed 4x4 that was a girlfriend's truck 19 years ago.
She would run it out of oil fairly often.
It would somehow survive until she would get up to my cabin where I could fill it up.

I remember, years ago, there was an infomercial for some magic oil additive. They added the product to the engine oil and then removed the valve cover and oil pan and ran the engine for hours until it stopped. It was clearly a 225ci slant six they used in their demo. No doubt in my mind why they chose to use that engine.

I would be included to check the insurance of the tow driver. That is a bad dent and it is a lot of work to get these beds straight, as I heard over and over from the body shop owner who painted my truck.

So far, I think that color is Sunburst Orange but it doesn't seem to be listed as an option for 1979 Power Wagons.

Gets extreme mileage, and with the flip of a switch and a tromp on the skinny pedal scares the crap out of a van full of my kids and smokes the idiot in the Ford pickup playing leap frog with me.
25 years ago, but still a fond memory.
