Dodge releases new Power Wagon

Ok, now quite as cool as the radical concept that debuted a few years ago, but pretty cool nonetheless. Not available with the Cummins unfortunately.

The press release is here.

You can also get a good picture of the new sunroof

Especially cool are the electric lockers front and rear and electrically disconnected sway bar link. I wonder if we can get these for the HD axles? That would be the greatest add on for our trucks I could imagine to come out of this package.

Also worth mentioning are the newly designed rear leaf springs (not clear if the front is any different), 4.56 gearing and Bilstein montube shocks standard.

Anyone notice this on the Power Wagon stats that someone posted in that link above?:

TRANSMISSION: 5-45RFE—AUTOMATIC FIVE-SPEED
Availability Optional
Description Three planetary gear sets, one overrunning clutch,
full electronic control, electronically controlled converter clutch
Gear Ratios
1st 3.0
2nd upshift; 1.50—kick-down
3rd 1.0
4th 0.75
5th 0.67
Overall Top Gear 3.06 with 4.56 axle ratio

TRANSMISSION: G56-MANUAL, SIX-SPEED OVERDRIVE (LATE AVAILABILITY)
Availability Standard with 5.9L high-output diesel and 5.7L V-8 engines
Description Synchronized in all gears
Gear Ratios
1st 6.29
2nd 3.48
3rd 2.10
4th 1.38
5th 1.00
6th 0.79
Reverse 5.74
Does this mean the 2005 diesels will not have the NV5600????? And hows the gearing on the above compare to the 5600's gear ratio?

Oh found the NV5600's ratios myself:
Gear Ratios
1st 5.63
2nd 3.38
3rd 2.04
4th 1.39
5th 1.00
6th 0.73

So it looks like the 6th gear gets what it needs....a little less gearing for higher speed at lower RPM? (Not an expert, someone tell me if I am right?)

And what about that new 5 speed auto? Wonder if that will ever be an option with different gearing?

Verry interesting......

I think you may have missed the part that says the 5.7 Hemi is the only engine option for this package. No Cummins, so those trannies are not for us.

These Tannies are specifically for the 5.7ltr and have nothing to do with the CTD's

Looks like we do some nice suspension swaps

The hidden mounting system for the Warn winch is nice too.

Not that i'm really interested, but did anyone else notice the moonroof?

????

That says available in both the DIESEL & Hemi.......?

Yes, the auto is clearly for the Powerwagon only, but that above says for both engines? Can anyone elaborate?

From reading it again, it seems that the Power Wagon will start out with the Hemi & Auto tranny, then later on will be available with the CTD engine, and a new 6 speed manual.

My question I guess, if Dodge makes an all new 6 speed for the power wagon, that works with the CTD....would they put it into the normal RAM's? Seems kinda pricey to make 2 whole new trannys for the power wagon and not migrate them over (with just a low gear difference) to the RAM Trucks.....

Thoughts?

Hmmm.... missed that. I don't know, but since it says standard, I would think it replaces the NV5600.

The Jeep Rescue is supposed to be a Cummins rig. I would guess that it is the Cummins version of the Power Wagon running gear with a Jeep body.

More on the Power Wagon......

Based on the Ram 2500, the vehicle will be available in two- and four-door configurations and is touted as the most capable off-road pickup truck in the market. It’s powered by Chrysler’s 345-hp 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 and features electric locking front and rear differentials, an electronic disconnecting front sway bar and custom-built 12,000-lb. winch. Chrysler says the differentials and sway bar are segment exclusives, and it boasts that the truck’s wheel articulation with new suspension design is best-in-class.

The front suspension uses a solid front axle with coil spring design, and the rear
features a new single-stage leaf design. Chrysler also touts what it describes as unique, softer spring settings. To enhance off-road capabilities, the Power Wagon features 4.56 gearing and Bilstein monotube high-pressure gas shock absorbers. The vehicle stands 80.6 inches tall and sits on 33-inch tires, which the automaker describes as the largest for any production pickup.

What, no diesel? ....figures....

Trust me on that 6.1l Hemi though, It's coming. 375 horses. Should be great on the CAFE numbers.

Oh, ya it's real. Ricardo did some work on it I think and used it as an example in a presentation.

I thought it had DC's displacment on demand setup?

I was heading back home to Va. Running up I85 thru NC. and was past by one of these new power wagons, very impressive looking ( Badging was awsome) The truck was pretty dirty and still had duck tape residue over and around all the power wagon badging.
I chased it down up to about 85 mph and it left me like i was standing still, ( was in my work van) the new flares look really good, hopefully they be available thru dodge parts dept.
