727 build up

hey guys I'm getting my tranny built up soon but as of now a tranny built for the 350-450hp range is a little out of my price range. my question is would a stock/mild build + suncoast torque converter + shift kit + aftermarket flexplate be a good upgrade. the guy im going to has a great list of references so I know he's good, and he said it would be wise to invest in a aftermarket flexplate because he has seen the stock ones crack. I don't tow, would this be good enough to be reliable and still be able to show the ricer what a real motor is made of? Thanks

Yea, the tranny itself is a legendary 727 so it'll be fine, we took ours apart at 320,000 miles and it looked like new.

Shiftkit+Goerendconverter+transgo shiftkit would be a great upgrade,

reason i said goerend is becuase when my dad talked to suncoast they sounded dumbfounded of the fact the truck had no overdrive. They were like Huh? also a member on here "ruquik" had his trans in his 93 built by suncoast (A518) and had no reverse a month later.

I personally did'nt like the way they talked to my dad on the phone, I'd go with goerend, When my dad talked to him somehow they started talking about beer . He knows his stuff about first gens and will custom make you a converter to what you do with your truck.

Converter/shift kit and you'll be burning ricers all day, we beat a 99 5spd mustang GT with exhaust/intake with out 91 727 truck with a stock converter. The truck ran a 14.9 in the 1/4.

for that power level i would find my self a second gen flexplate. it will be plenty strong and most likely cheaper than an aftermarket one.

yep will bolt right on. if you do go with a goerend converter they also sell an insert for the flexplate that you weld on it. It makes it stronger yet and its only 20 bucks for the insert.

That article inspired us to get a converter for our 91 727, wow what a difference with the goerend $650 deal. Our trans builder said the clutches are only nec. if the stocks ones are bad. 727 and TH400 were the same way, bulletproof

this old man has been telling people the stock clutches are good for years. raced them for 12 years. one car with over 600 hp at the strip. people didnt believe me. i sold them high dollar stuff and laughed all the way to the bank.
