50W Synthetic trans oil
Any thoughts on using this in a high mileage getrag, I'm sure the tolerances are no where near where they were when it was new? This is what Eaton Fuller uses in their modern transmissions.

My rebuilt Getrag came with a locally produced instruction recommending engine oil with the one quart overfill, and especially to use synthetic. I dumped my initial overfill down the shifter hole and after a few years used a suction gun and pumped the extra quart thru an upper bolt hole on the other side plate (mine's 2WD).

I'm aware of the recommened oil and overfill, just wanted thoughts of using a slightly heavier single wt. oil in a well used (loose) getrag, pros and cons. Thanks.

Any thoughts? Will this wear the syncros faster or make the trans run hotter than normal and they already run pretty warm. The third gear syncro is already lazy in my 90 and wondered if 50W syn trans would hurt it further or not.

A couple guys on another site have been using 50W synthetic and like it. One of them, Michael Miller, says his getrag temps have been running cooler. At my next change I plan to try some 50W.
