2nd Injection Pump still no luck

1990 3/4 non IC truck

Injection pump went out a little while back. I rebuilt it myself with a kit from Bosch but the pump never functioned correctly. It never had any power.

I bought an IP from Pensacola Diesel. But the truck runs rough at idle now. The truck violently shakes and misses. If I hit the pedal a little bit it runs smooth. Could something be off in the IP internals?

I got 300k+ on the truck. Had an injector job done about 4 years ago. Is it possible that a IP functioning correctly is revealing a stuck injector that wasn't stuck with the incorrectly functioning IP?

How low is your idle? If the truck smooths out when you bring up the throttle, maybe it just idling too low?

The idle speed is great. The speed seems right. It was set Pensacola Diesel. I also have two other running VE pump trucks to compare the idle to. I'm very positive the idle speed is not the issue.

Could it be a stuck valve in the back of the pump?

Are you sure the injector lines were connected correctly?
Can you borrow a compression tester?
Have the valves ever been adjusted ?

I had the exact same symptoms when my throttle lever indexing was one spline off. I re-indexed it, and it's run beautifully ever since.

I have owned the truck for a decade. I know the compression is good. I adjust the valves every couple years. I am very confident the valvetrain is good.

I am really stuck here because when I put the old pump on (the one with no power) it does not miss at idle. I am taking off the new pump right now and putting the old (no power) pump back on. I'll see if the miss goes away again.

That is where I started when this problem began. I re-indexed it, but that doesn't seem to be the problem. If I take it off the spline it's on, it will run away. It doesn't seem to be a spline related issue. I can't see where the spline would be off on Pensacola's pump out of the box.

Wouldn't surprise me in the least...Pensacola has a TERRIBLE reputation because of selling junk pumps.

Well, if it doesn't do it with the old pump but does it with the new pump I think you've found the problem.
