1st gen FSS question!
Hey all...
So I’ve been having a trying few week discovering all the issues that my truck has. My latest issue is my FSS failed to open. I supplied 12v direct to the terminal and no clicks sound. So I pulled it out, and gutted it. My question is...
What should I have pulled out for parts? I got the plunger and the o-ring off, but I’ve seen some sort of pen spring looking thing in some of the photos and I did not find one if those. I’m not going to even attempt to start it until I hear from someone on this.
Oh, the plunger was whole looking and somewhat stuck in the orifice, so once I got it out, I bench tested it and it did activate, so I’m planning to leave it gutted until I get a new one.
This is what I got out of the solenoid.
Crappy wet day here in Maine today. 1.5” of rain. Like my garage?

Ok, so I guess I answe my own questions. The FSS body was leaking without the o-ring so I put it back. I could feel it start to snug up 1/2 a turn soone with it in. So, o-ring? CHECK!
As far as the spring goes... I cleaned out and looked in the opening that the FSS came out of and it was all clear, and the was nothing left in the FSS that I could get out, (plus no spring tension on the plunger when I pushed it into the FSS body) so I put it all back together, bled my lines and it fired right up.

I am a little late with this but i ran mine for years without the spring and plunger. O ring seals the top to the body. Got to have it. I now run with the spring and plunger that I modified IAW the "Sticky". I also kept the pull cable just in case it doesn't shut down with the key. I am glad I did.
