FSS question...
Can the FSS be partially open if it not getting enough voltage? If so, would this allow the IP a small supply of fuel?
My truck would start up just fine, but if I put it in gear it would die. Also, going down the road I was getting a miss. I've been jiggling with the FSS wire and these condtions come and go.

I guess it could but if you take the fss out and remove the plunger and the spring then put it back and try it you will know for sure. Then if that wasnt the problem you can just put the spring and plunger back in it.

bump for more thought. I don't think it's an FSS issue anymore.
I still have this problem and it's getting annoying. I wonder if the idle speed is too low for my torque convertor? I'm thinking I don't have enough idle speed, so when I put the truck into gear the trans kills the motor. I know in a previous post I mentioned the idle was high, but now I think it's low. It seems low when starting it in the morning when cold.
What happens is, I put it in gear and give it just a touch of throttle, and it dies. It doesn't do it all the time. It is more prone to do it in reverse. It died 5 times when I was trying to back up to the dump today. Kind of embarrassing. One thing I have been doing is stabbing the throttle putting it into gear, but that is kind of annoying too.

yeah I'd change your fuel filter first, then maybe turn your idle up. My truck would do that sometimes in the summer when it was warm, it would idle low and would sometimes die in reverse or barely idle at stop lights. Might as well turn your idle up and get the most out of that pump before you put the new one in.
Yeah smoky, it only does it when the truck is warmed up. It doesn't do it when cold.
But I will try the filter fer sure. I tried to get it off this morning and it was on too tight to untighten it by hand. I opened the water drain but no water came out though. The filter is a Fleetguard, the longer one that you can upgrade too (in the sticky)
I have no plans at the moment to install the other pump. I am too lazy. I also don't want to get in over my head and mess something up. I would love to advance the timing a tooth though and see how it responds. It seems to peter out at 85 mph.

yeah thats how mine was. It idles great now that its cold.
Oh and just a reminder that unscrewing the fuel filter is kind of backwards because you wanna loosen it from lookin at it from the top, which is actually tightening it because it screws on if your lookin at it from the bottom. I know I've done this sometimes wondering why it won't come off and its because i'm goin the wrong way

Well, I took the filter off, emptied it, and put it back on. It was pretty clean. It had a small dent in it though. I don't think that would matter. I drove it into town and it didn't die on me, but if you give it like 5% throttle, it acts likes it's being starved for fuel. If you go past 5% throttle, it is fine.

) you could always swap it in and see if that is the issue.
