In the process of deleting that nasty little black box in the fender because mine is non rebuildable and new ones only exist in folklore. Have everything back in and all is working fine even the air conditioning which I have been told his run through there but does not seem to be on mine as the clutch operates normally from what I can tell. However, we have no speedometer and have trace the power wire to the little black box harness plug. Is there a way to run the current speedometer without replacing the entire Dash and installing a cable?

I should add that it is a 5-speed and there has been an internally regulated Delco alternator put in place of the nippondenso

I've been on a quest to unplug my truck too. If I remember right, the speedo-meter gets 8 volts from the brain-box. I figured that I'll just leave that as the one component still dependent on the ECM, and when the speedo finally craps out, I'll just go to a cable-driven gauge.

For 91.5, all you need to do is jumper between two pin sockets on the ECM plug: There is a sensor ground that runs back to the control module from a few things, including the speedometer. The speedometer has its own voltage reducer -- all it needs is that ground to operate. I pulled the ECM over a year ago, and having been running fine with a jumper since then.

I apologize, I just don't have time right now to look up the wiring diagram and pin numbers.

@Alec does your cruise control still work? I think that and my heater grid are the last things using my ECM.

No cruise control on my truck. I have the idea that cruise control was only available on the automatic trucks until '92 or '93, but I don't know that for a fact.
