Mine hasn't blown up yet. It's all in how you put the power down.

Thanks guys for the suggestions - I picked up a nv4500 tranny today and will be doing the swap using the conversion kit from high impact. I'll give you guys some feedback here in about a week when I get time to do the swap.

I had the same problem, I built up some weld on each side of the shifter and ground it back into shape its workin great.

got my parts from hi-impact today - I'm not sure about the bellhousing - 3 outta 4 bolt holes were not drilled let alone recessed so you can bolt it to the tranny - I might have to take it to a machine shop to finish the job
tell me what do you think? sorry for my crappy iphone pics,,,

It will handle the power.

Shifting fast while racing is the only thing that ever hurt mine.

IIRC from speaking to Quad 4x4; Getrag rated for 360 ft lbs
nv 4500.............................................. ..........460 ft lbs
nv 5600.............................................. ..........560 ft lbs
G56............................................... ...............600(?) ft lbs

For that money would had just rebuilt the Getrag......................3 times.

I thought the bellhousing bolts on the front to the tranny like on most cars but I guess this one bolts through the tranny into the bellhousing...doh! Trying to find the right bolts for it now as it didn't come with any...and neither did my parts tranny

You should have bought an advance adapters kit. It comes with everything, bell, hardware kit, tranny to crossmember adapter, np205 bracket and rod if its a 4x4. I have used 3 AA kits and think its by far the best bang for the buck. It even comes with directions that show the correct length to take off the nv4500's bearing retainer. Made it real easy to take the it off then to a machine shop where they put it on the lathe and cut it straight and true. DONT USE A HACKSAW! Its very hard and it doesnt cost all that to have it done to the .001 on a lathe. I think they charged me $10 each time.

I did the NV4500 swap years ago with the kit and trans from Standard Transmission & Gear in Fort Worth, TX. They also stock parts for the Getrag and sell rebuilt Getrags, now, too. At the time I did mine, the Getrag was nearly impossible to get any parts for and none of my local shops wanted to work on it, so I went with the NV and never looked back.

Hope you get your adapter kit straightened out.
