That is how you shift if you want to use the t-case to split.

It is not very progressive -- that is, the "gaps" between the gears are not all the same, and the shift from 5lo to 4hi is still pretty big. Worse yet, the 3hi to 5lo shift requires you to shift the transmission from 3-5 before you can double the input speed on the t-case to make the downshift from hi to lo.

I can't make these shifts in any way fast enough for it to be worth doing with a load.
Thank you...That pretty much answers my question. I thought to myself that it seemed too good to be true when I first came across that info.

Thank you to all who posted up comments and info.

The last couple days I just did a couple little things.
First I mounted the transmission crossmember braces and adjusted a little more on the transfercase shifters. I also got the steering box bracket about half cleaned up and derusted.

I mean the stamped POS. It just looks like trouble.
I am happy with my decision to do the conversion to the RR steering box.
I drove(I mean herded) my dad's 89 W250 Thursday that really reminded me that the stock steering sucks.

After bobva posted to change the valve in the back of the pump to the old style it should be a bolt on.

You will probably have to drill out the holes in the bracket though. And if you swap the valve in the pump the stock 1970s hoses should fit without modification.

It wouldn't be hard to correct for a 4" and have good drag link geometry. I think better than a crossover.
Once I get caught up I may look for a steering arm to weld up the tapered hole and re drill it and put the taper on the top.

If you went 4" you might have to experiment with a steering knuckle block ala

Its all bolt on.
Just ream the 3 holes on the bracket and the 2 on the chevy shaft.
The SAE hoses come strait off the NAPA shelf. NO BENDING

I have no idea why NJT went with metric box, pump, lines
