did my first batch of bio no good, oil was to cold, took pic of process will post tomorrow if i get a chance. still have to wash it but will put pic on here and on my web site. starting to set up for big batches.
I don't see how having it to cold could have caused a bad batch, just seems like it'd have to mix longer to complete.
Color / clarity?
How could you tell it was no good? I'm starting to collect parts for my own processor.
Good luck with the bio. Start small, get good at it, then go to bigger batches. I am working on a new processor that is an old propane tank. It holds about 25 gallons (100 lb tank). Was a little nervous with the first few welds, but I left the tank open for a few weeks, flushed it with soap and the power washer 3 times and let it sit again for awhile. The tank is almost done, just trying to come up with the bast way to mix the bio, I want to keep the system totally closed. Picked up a new pump for it today.
The biggest problem I have is getting oil!! I have made up flyers and drop them off on my way home from work. Geez, these guys act like it is gold or something! I tell them I will take it away for free, and still get the puzzled look. 10 flyers out this past week, and no calls yet.
Well, all I can do is keep trying. Good luck with the bio, and I am more than willing to help answer any questions. While I don't claim to know it all, I have been making the stuff for about 2 years. It's not too hard. Seems like the interest is higher along with the fuel prices.
Maybe it's time for a alternative fuels discussion heading/forum here at DTR?

Here's a good design for a "washing" tank.

Yes, thats a good one. There are lots of good sites out there. I found this site to be the most informitive from the technical side of it:
http://biodiesel.infopop.cc/6/ubb.x?a=cfrm&s=447609751
Lately, I have done a combination of initially "reverse washing", followed by mist washing, then finally, bubble washing. I can have bio clean in about 3 hours if I really push it. Some report even faster times.
All of those terms I just used are explained on the above link. There is a learning curve, just have to keep at it and read allot, and ask allot. Kevin

I see you guys are talking about Bio-diesel, a product that can be made from Waste Vegetable Oil (WVO) or Virgin Vegetable Oil, [sometimes refured to as Straight Vegetable Oil (SVO).]
The reason for this post is to mention that some of us are running on WVO that has not been converted to Bio-diesel. Being more mechanical minded and not into chemistry I opted for the WVO route for an alternative fuel. So far I have logged just under 22k miles,running it for a year now.
For more information on how this is done check out;
http://www.frybrid.com/test.htm there is a forum available there as well.
For a good site on how to get started with WVO check out the first two posts at;

I'm not affiliated with Frybrid or Infopop in any way. However I have purchased valves from Frybrid. The best on the market IMHO.
I'm just completing a new set of schematics on converting the 12 valvers. I offer these free to anyone interested. I should have them available by the end of the week. I have sent out many schematics of the orinional setup, these new ones are for an improved setup using 3-port valves rather then the 6-port Pollak Valves.
