Any other problems or issues?

If the timing is advanced quite a ways it could cause loping. A more probable possibility would be a bad overflow valve, those are pretty common parts to go from what I understand.

low RPM miss/instability
white smoke
hard starting
engine dies at idle
low power
fuel filter cracking

I've owned the truck 2 full years now and the previous owner gave me all the info I am going by. timing was supposedly set at 15.5 but that was quite a while ago. I also note that mine seems to be the noisiest 12V in the country and all the drive-thru window people note that too ;-). Runs like a bear , well a fat bear anyway, it's a little slow getting rolling. I have a #.6 fuel plate here i am going to get around to installing some day.

Since NO ONE in my town wants to touch this thing are the parts/settings you mentioned fixable by someone with good mech. knowledge (ME!)? thanx , DAVE

crossy,

The overflow valve is easy to change. Do a search and read about it, you will find a source and all the info to change it. just my .002

that sounds like something that could also make the fuel mileage drop off a bit like it has ?

SHARPMACHINE, how did you make out with your 3GSK? what brand & where, thanx for the help, DAVE

Yes along with the low power you also lose fuel mileage.

"The OF valve is probably the single item the wears out most often on a 12 valve.
Cheapest overflow valve source-
Precision Diesel Injection and Turbo Inc.
Marty Tompkins
888-734-7349
$35 + $5 shipping and handling.
Replacement takes one wrench and five minutes."

I like the TST. I've only read about one or two people out of several dozen who didn't think the GSK was worth the money, those just said they couldn't feel a difference.

If you are even possibly thinking of getting governor springs, GET THEM! They are worth their weight in gold

My truck has come up with the same lope out of nowhere a month or two ago. I'm yet to figure it out. It only does it when I first start it and until it warms up. I've changed filters and have gone through a few tanks of fuel since this problem started. I don't know what an overflow valve is, but I suppose I need to research it.

thanx for all the help guys ,
I mainly thought of the GSK to extend the RPM a little before the next shift. with ONLY 4 speeds in the automatic it could use the help especially from 3-4. I also know i'll gain about 5MPH ?? on top end which now goes right to 100MPH at 2750 RPM. DAVE

I just so happen to see a severely mistreated 94 CTD today in Del. it was even smoking ! and i asked the guy what was wrong with it(other than him and the truck looked to have never had a bath or maintenece), and he said it was a POS with 450K on it. !!

I don't think the 3 GSK really extends the RPMs much, but with the stock setup it begins defueling pretty early (2200?). So by installing the GSK you're mainly extending your powerband, from what I've read the stock motor will rev to around 2800 but by that point has no real power.

OH! so it is not just a matter extending the rpm it is also increases the power in the upper portion of the RPM band. Yes i can see where that would be very beneficial to an automatic truck.

So who are we supporting on the board that sellls them and the OF valve i need. 1 stop shopping ? thanx , DAVE

crossy...it's your injectors and/or delivery valves and being that it's an auto as well..every 95' auto truck with the 160 pump has done it..timing will slightly cure it and maybe adjust your governor springs

gsk IS the best mod for a 12v!!

btw, advanced timing will make the truck louder...more of the hammering sound. mine's really loud on a cold morning.

lope

The overflow valve fixed the idle lope on mine. I also agree with the others that the 3KGSK is well worth the money. Easy to install also.
