transmission lines
transmission lines
I thought I had this issue taken care of, but I am still not clear. The stock lines from what I have read use a plastic quick disconnect clip, which is known to break. Recommendation is to replace all the lines using the new threaded conectors. Cost is about $400 or so. A transmission shop which I have used before, has said I have a metal clip disconnect, and they "should be fine", not the plastic clips which should be replaced. I have read there is a metal type clip to replace the plastic clip. The previous owner did not to his knowledge ever replace the clips, and never had any problems. Could I really have the metal clips that are fine, so my problem is solved by doing nothing? There are many things I want to do to this truck, and saving $400 will move me on to the next on the list, but if all the lines & connectors should be replaced... well there I am. Advice please. Thanks again, Ken
The metal clips were an intermediate step in-between the plastic ones and the screw on fittings and were done as a recall on gasser Rams. Some trucks, such as mine were "mistaken" for a gasser and had the recall done "accidentally". The metal clips are no longer available and you have to replace the entire lines.
You can check with the dealer and see if this is what happened to your truck and if you have any other outstanding recalls.
My metal clips made it over 200k without leaking but when I upgraded to a Suncoast tranny the shop recommended I switch over to the screw on lines. I did.

I made up a couple lengths of hydraulic hose to replace my lines, the transmission cooler down under the turbo has standard NPT thread. Works perfect, I think it cost me $30 I'd have to look it up, it was about a year ago.
